Pokemon GO breaks records on iOS and Android, set to have more active users than Twitter within days
Augmented reality gaming app Pokemon GO is breaking
records with the game surging to the top of both the Apple App Store and
Google Play charts for both downloads and revenue only days after being
released.
The game was released in the United States on July 6
and a remarkable 5 hours later became the most popular app on iPhone’s
according to data from Sensor Tower VentureBeat reports,
and that includes both the revenue chart as well where it has overtaken
popular games Game of War, Clash Royale, and Clash of Clans.
Pokemon GO also holds the same chart positions in
both Australia and New Zealand where the game was first launched several
days earlier.
On Android the numbers are perhaps even more remarkable, with tracking firm Similar Web reporting Sunday
that as of July 8th the app was installed on a staggering 5.16 percent
of all Android devices in the United States, giving it twice as many
installs as popular dating app Tinder.
The game is also highly addictive, with some 60
percent of those who have downloaded the app in the United States using
it daily, meaning 3 percent of the entire U.S. Android population are
users of the app; to put that in perspective that’s nearly as many
active users as Twitter, Inc. with Pokemon GO expected to pass Twitter
for active users in the coming days.
Users are also spending large amounts of time on the app, with the app being used for an average of 43 minutes, 23 seconds a day, higher than Whatsapp, Instagram, Snapchat, and Messenger.
